EDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's tennis team fell 3-4 to the Lamar University Cardinals on Friday at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
The Cardinals (5-3) took the early advantage in doubles as the team of Michael Feucht and Jusso Laitinen defeated the Broncs' team of
Juan Cruz Soria and
Sebastien Job 6-2 in No. 1 doubles.
The Broncs (2-6) bounced back as the team of
Mauricio Fosado and
Alejandro Sanoja won their match against Trey Crysel and Nikita Lis 6-2. The duo of
Chetan Panditi and
Ricardo Hopker then clinched the doubles point for the Broncs with a 6-2 win over Jeandre Hoogenboezem and Mikko Rajamaki at No. 2 doubles.
In singles, the Cardinals evened things up after Feucht beat Job 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and then Hoogenboezem followed with a win over Fosado 6-4, 6-5 at No. 6 singles. Soria then evened things for the Broncs as he defeated Lis 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.
After Lamar picked up another point at No. 5 singles, they clinched the match with a win at No. 4 singles. Panditi then closed out the match with a come-from-behind win a No. 3 singles. Panditi dropped the first set 4-6 and then bounced back to take the next two sets 6-5, 6-3.
The Broncs are back in Sunday when the travel to San Antonio to face the University of the Incarnate Word at 2 p.m.
