SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's tennis team hits the road to face the University of the Incarnate Word Cardinals on Sunday at  2 p.m. at the Clarence Mabry Tennis Center.
 
Last Time Out
The Broncs (2-6) are coming off of a 3-4 loss to the Lamar University Cardianls on Feb. 14.
 
The Broncs jumped out to the early lead as they took the doubles point from the Cardinals. After dropping the No. 1 doubles match, the Broncs bounced back with a win a No. 2 and 3 doubles.
 
In singles, the Cardinals answered back with wins at the No. 2 and 6 spots. Juan Cruz Soria gave the momentum back to the Broncs with a win a No. 1 singles after he beat Nikita Lis 6-3, 6-1.
 
The Broncs dropped the No. 5 and 4 singles matches to clinch the match but Chetan Panditi closed out the match with a win at No. 3 singles with a win over Yusso Laitinen 4-6, 6-5, 6-3.
 
Scouting the Cardinals
The Cardinals are 3-2 on the season and are on a three-match win streak after defeating Midwestern State 4-3 on Feb. 15. They also have victories over St. Mary's and St. Edwards.
 
Their losses have come against Baylor and Louisiana.
 
Jair Assuncao, Tucker Brown, Brandon Davis and Leonard Ivic each have three dual match singles victories on the season.
 
In doubles, the team of Ivic and Josip Smoljan lead the Cardinals with a 3-1 doubles record as they have played all their matches at No. 1 doubles.
 
 
The Series
The Broncs are 2-0 all-time against the Cardinals in a series dating back to 2001. Both of these teams faced off last season with the Broncs taking the match 7-0 on March 23 at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
 
Globetrotters
The Broncs have eight student-athletes representing six countries including, Argentina, Brazil, Belgium, India, Mexico and the United States. Sanoja is from the Rio Grande Valley as he calls Mission home.
 
Next Up
The Broncs are back in action on Feb. 21 when they travel to Arlington to face the University of Texas at Arlington Mavericks at 12 p.m.
