SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's tennis dropped their road match to the University of the Incarnate Word Cardinals 2-5 on Sunday at the Mabry Tennis Center.
The Broncs (2-7) took the early advantage as they won two-of-three doubles matches. The duo of
Ricardo Hopker and
Chetan Panditi defeated Jair Assucao and Tucker Brown 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.
Juan Cruz Soria teamed with
Mauricio Fosado to beat Brandon Davis and Johan Haerens 6-4 at No. 3 doubles clinching the point for the Broncs.
The Cardinals (4-2) responded with five wins in singles competition. The Broncs got their lone singles point as
Joseph Bishop defeated Antonio Cavazos 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 6 spots.
Soria took his match against Assuncao to three sets but fell 3-6, 6-2, 6-5 at No. 1 singles.
Sebastien Job also took his match against Leonard Ivic to three sets. After dropping the first set 0-6, he came back with a 6-3 win in the second before falling in the third set 3-6. Hopker opened his match against Brown with a 6-2 first set victory before falling 6-4 and 6-3 to close out the match.
The Broncs are back in action on Feb. 21 when they travel to Arlington to face the University of Texas at Arlington Mavericks at 12 p.m.
