Women's Basketball Falls to Aggies

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Junior Brittany Bush scored 16 points and grabbed 17 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season but it wasn't enough as the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's basketball team fell 83-71 to the New Mexico State University Aggies on Thursday at the Pan American Center.
 
Sophomore KaeLynn Boyd led the Broncs with 17 points and also grabbed eight rebounds. Sophomore Jasmine Thompson added 12 points with two steals and a block. Bush also added two blocks.
 
Danesia Williams led all scorers with 22 points and seven assists. Moriah Mack recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Sasha Weber chipped in 15 points.
 
The Broncs (12-14, 6-7 WAC) jumped out to the quick 9-2 lead after a jumper by Boyd with 16:07 left in the first half. The Aggies (10-16, 7-6 WAC) responded with a 10-2 as a three-pointer by Weber gave them the 12-11 lead with 11:28 left to play in the half.
 
After a three-pointer by Abby Scott pushed the Aggies' lead to 21-13, the Broncs went on a 10-0 run that was capped by a Thompson three-pointer giving them the 23-22 lead with 5:54 left in the half. The Broncs took a 32-28 lead into halftime.
 
Williamson knocked down a three-pointer with 17:06 left in the game that gave the Aggies the 39-36 lead, which they would never give back. The Broncs got within three after a three-pointer by Boyd made it 70-67 with 3:44 left in the game but the Aggies put the game out of reach.
 
The Broncs are back in action on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. when they host Bakersfield.
