Street Fires Two-Hitter to Lead Baseball Past Northwestern State

Box Score

EDINBURG – University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball senior pitcher Sam Street twirled a completed game two-hit shutout to beat the Northwestern State University Demons 1-0 on Friday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium in the Broncs' first game of the Al Ogletree Classic.

Street (2-0) retired the first 11 Demons (2-4) he faced before Chase Daughdrill singled off of a 2-2 pitch with two outs in the fourth. Street responded by retiring the next 15 hitters. With two outs in the ninth, Bret Underwood hit a blooper to center and Joel Atkinson and Daughdrill each got plunked on 1-2 pitches. Street worked the count full with Caleb Dugas before inducing a groundout to second to end the game.

Street finished with 11 strikeouts and 11 groundouts in his ninth career complete game and fourth career shutout. He went to three ball counts just three times all night, and not at all in the first six and two-third innings.

The Broncs (3-2) got the only run they needed in the first. Junior Michael Baca and senior Alberto Morales walked to set-up a two-out RBI-single by senior Alex Howe.

That was it against Hunter Duvic (0-2), who struck out six while allowing four hits and two walks in six innings.

The Broncs face off against the Demons against on Saturday at 7 p.m., but first, they will play Prairie View A&M at 3 p.m. at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Gates open at 2.
