EDINBURG – For the first time in 42 years, the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team recorded back-to-back 1-0 wins after beating the Prairie View A&M University Panthers on Saturday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium in the Broncs' second game of the Al Ogletree Classic.

The last time the Broncs (4-2) won back-to-back 1-0 games was April 28-29, 1972, when they won a pair of games at Baylor.

It is the third time in program history that the Broncs have won back-to-back 1-0 games. The only other time was on March 25, 1967, when the Broncs swept Indiana in a doubleheader in San Antonio.

It is the first time in program history that the Broncs have won back-to-back 1-0 games against different opponents.

Junior Blake English (1-0) gave the Broncs their second-straight dominant start, working eight shutout innings, striking out three while scattering four singles and one walk. Two of the hits didn't leave the infield. English retired the first six batters he faced and the final 10.

Junior Clayton Haltom pitched a hitless ninth for his second save.

The Broncs loaded the bases with one out twice in the first three innings against Panthers (2-5) starter A.J. Helms (0-2). After a double play ended the potential to score in the first, senior Alberto Morales came up with a sacrifice fly in the third to make it 1-0.

The Broncs face the Panthers again Sunday at 1 p.m., but first they host the Northwestern State University Demons at 7 p.m. in the second game of this doubleheader at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
