EDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team drew a season-high 13 walks to go with eight hits in a 9-3 win over the Prairie View A&M University Panthers on Sunday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium in the final game of the Al Ogletree Classic.

It was the Broncs' (5-3) highest walk total since drawing 13 at Houston Baptist on April 30, 2011. It was the third time the Broncs have draw 13 walks in a game since Manny Mantrana became head coach, and the first time at home.

The Broncs drew six of their walks during a four-run fifth inning. Up 4-1, freshman Victor Garcia Jr. drew a four-pitch walk from Panthers (2-6) starter Chadd Flick (0-1). One out later, junior Clayton Haltom drew a five-pitch walk and senior Dillon Engelhart drew a six-pitch walk to load the bases. Senior Shane Ammon followed with a two-run single to knock out Flick. Michael Dewey came in and threw 12 of his 14 pitches out of the strike zone while walking senior Alex Howe, junior Jesus Garcia and senior Alberto Morales. The last two walks forced in runs, putting the Broncs up 8-1.

That made a winner of freshman and Nikki Rowe alum Andrew Padron (1-0), who allowed one run on three hits and three walks while striking out two in five innings in his first-career start.

Hitting leadoff, Howe went 3-for-3 with a double and a triple while driving in two, scoring once and stealing two bases. It was his third-straight three-hit game after recording two all of last season. Howe finished the weekend 11-for-15 (.733) with a .765 on-base percentage, a .933 slugging percentage, four RBI, three runs scored and four stolen bases.

His triple came to start the first inning. He later scored when Morales reached on an error to make it 1-0.

Howe's single drove in a run in the second to make it 2-0.

His double drove in a run in the fourth. He then stole third and scored on a groundout by Garcia to make it 4-1.

The Broncs kick-off a five-game road trip on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. when they visit No. 18/25 Texas in a game that will be televised on Longhorn Network.
