SEATTLE, Wash. – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's basketball team fell to the Seattle University Redhawks 83-62 on Thursday at Key Arena.
Junior
Shaquille Boga led three Broncs (6-18, 2-7 WAC) in double-figures scoring with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting in addition to four rebounds, three assists and four steals. Sophomore
Shaquille Hines scored 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting with four rebounds. Graduate student
Javorn Farrell scored 14 points with six rebounds and three assists.
Isiah Umipig led four Redhawks in double-figures scoring (11-10, 3-5 WAC) with 21 points.
D'Vonne Pickett scored 15 points.
Shore Adenekan recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Jarell Flora scored 11 points.
The Redhawks jumped out to an 11-2 lead, punctuating the run with a dunk by Adenekan. Boga hit a free throw and then Farrell made a layup and a three as the Broncs scored the next seven points to pull within two.
The Broncs were still within one possession when Boga made a jumper with 13:40 remaining in the first half to bring the Broncs within 15-12, but a Umipig three kicked off a 21-5 run, capped by a
Clarence Trent jumper seven minutes later, as the Redhawks went up 36-17.
The Broncs pulled back within single figures in the first 30 seconds of the second half when a Hines layup made it 42-34. Hines then answered a Flora three with another bucket to keep the Broncs within 45-36, but a Umipig jumper pushed the Redhawks' lead into double-figures for the rest of the game.
The Broncs are back in action on Saturday at 9 p.m. when they visit Idaho.
