Men's Tennis Falls to No. 64 Arkansas in First Match of Doubleheader

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's tennis team dropped the first match of their doubleheader to the No. 64 Arkansas Razorbacks 1-6 on Friday at the George M. Billingsley Tennis Center.
 
The Razorbacks (5-3) got the match started as the team of Johan den Toom and Santiago Munoz defeated the Broncs' duo of Ricardo Hopker and Mauricio Fosado 6-2 at No. 3 doubles. Arkansas then clinched the doubles point as Hall Fess and Pete Thomason beat Chetan Panditi and Juan Cruz Soria 6-2 in No. 2 doubles.
 
In singles, the Broncs (2-3) got their lone point of the match as Joseph Bishop defeated Juan Marino 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.
 
The Broncs had opportunities to pick up points at No. 4 and 5 singles as Hopker and Fosado forced the tiebreaker in their matches. Hopker bounced back after dropping his opening set with a 6-5 win in the second but fell 6-2 to Hess in the tiebreaker. Fosado opened with a 6-4 first set win but dropped the next two 6-1, 6-3 to Christian Lee. The Razorbacks won the rest of the matches in straight sets.
 
The Broncs are back in action at 5 p.m. when they play the second game of their doubleheader with the Razorbacks.
