Broncs Split Doubleheader with No. 15 Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team fell 4-3 in the second game of their doubleheader with the No. 15 Oklahoma State University Cowboys on Friday at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
 
With the game tied at three in the bottom of the eighth, pinch-hitter Saulyer Saxon delivered the winning run with an RBI single to left field.
 
Matthew Harrell (2-2) took the loss for the Broncs (10-10) after allowing one run on just one hit in two innings of relief.
 
The Cowboys (13-6) struck first in the bottom of the second against Alex Henson. After Zach Fish led off the inning with a single, he moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and then came into score on an RBI single by Robie Rojas making it 1-0.
 
Freshman Victor Garcia Jr. got the Broncs on the board in the top of the fourth with an RBI single that allowed junior Evan Mason to score tying the game at one.
 
In the top of the fifth, senior Alex Howe delivered a two-run single off of Oklahoma State's starter Jon Perrin giving the Broncs the 3-1 lead.
 
The Cowboys got a solo homerun from Fish in the bottom of the sixth inning getting them within one run. Later in the inning, Dustin Williams tied the game at three with an RBI bases loaded walk.
 
Henson pitched five and two-third innings while getting a no-decision and allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out three.
 
Blake Battenfield and Brendan McCurry pitched two scoreless innings each to close out the ball game. McCurry (2-0) earned the win after pitching two scoreless innings with three strikeouts.
 
The Broncs and Cowboys will wrap up their three-game series on Saturday with the first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.
