BEAUMONT – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team dropped the rubber match of its three-game series with the Lamar University Cardinals 7-0 on Sunday at Vincent-Beck Stadium.
Broncs (6-6) starter and freshman Nikki Rowe alum
Andrew Padron (1-1) allowed just one earned run, but four total on six hits in four and two-thirds innings while striking out two.
The Cardinals (8-4) scored their earned run in the second on a
Sullivan sacrifice fly.
Padron retired the first two batters he faced in the fifth. After a
Salazar single,
Bumpers reached on an error, and then
Stanley hit an RBI-double and
Virdine hit a two-run double to knock out Padron with the scored 4-0.
The Cardinals put runners at second and third with two outs in the sixth against senior
Kyle Tokunaga. A balk scored one run and then an error scored another run as the Cardinals went up 6-0.
In the seventh, the Cardinals loaded the bases with nobody out to knock out Tokunaga.
Kevin Santana reached on a fielder's choice error, allowing the run to score, to make it 7-0.
That made a winner of
Brent Janak (3-0), who pitched five innings of scoreless relief.
Sophomore PSJA alum
Bryan Ramirez and senior
Shane Ammon each had a single and a stolen base for the Broncs. Freshman
Omar Avila also singled.
The Broncs complete this five-game road trip on Wednesday at 4 p.m. when they visit UTSA.
