Men's Tennis Set to Face Off Against UTSA Saturday

SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's tennis team hits the road to face the University of Texas at San Antonio Roadrunners on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the UTSA Tennis Center.
 
Last Time Out
The Broncs fell 4-3 to the University of the Incarnate Word Cardinals on Friday at the Orville Cox Tennis Center on Senior Day.
 
Sebestien Job and Joseph Bishop got things going for the Broncs (3-12) in doubles as they defeated Brandon Davis and Chris Haerens 8-3 at the No. 3 position. Alejandro Sanoja and Juan Cruz Soria clinched the point with an 8-4 win over Tucker Brown and Jair Assuncao.
 
In singles, the Cardinals (10-3) took control as they won at No. 4, 3 and 1 singles positions but Joseph Bishop answered back with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 win over Brody Rodriguez in the No. 6 position. After the Cardinals clinched the match with a win at No. 5 singles, Chetan Panditi picked up a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 victory over Leonard Ivic to close out the match.
 
Scouting the Roadrunners
The Cardinals are 6-11 on the season and are coming off of 6-1 loss to Wichita State on Friday.
 
Thomas Stillman leads the Roadrunners with a 13-1 record while playing at No. 2 and 4 singles. He has posted a 5-0 record at the No. 2 position and an 8-1 record at the No. 4 spot.
 
Joel Rubio has an 11-5 record in singles competition while playing mainly in the No. 3 singles position.
 
In doubles, Stillman and Rubio have a 12-2 record while posting a 5-2 record at No. 1 doubles and a 7-0 record at No. 2 doubles.
 
The Series
The Broncs are 22-27 against the Roadrunners all-time in a series that dates back to 1982. Both of these teams met last season as the Roadrunners beat the Broncs 4-3 on Feb. 3.
 
The last time the Broncs beat the Roadrunners was on March 14, 2009 when they won 4-2.
 
Globetrotters
The Broncs have eight student-athletes representing six countries including, Argentina, Brazil, Belgium, India, Mexico and the United States. Sanoja is from the Rio Grande Valley as he calls Mission home.
 
Next Up
The Broncs are back in action on March 28 when they face the University of New Orleans at 2 p.m.
