EDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team dropped the rubber game of its three-game series with the New Mexico State University Aggies 3-2 on Sunday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Aggies (10-13, 2-1 WAC) starter
Robert Kraft threw eight of his first nine pitches out of the zone as junior
Jesus Garcia and senior
Alex Howe drew walks. They then pulled off a double-steal, which led to a sacrifice fly by senior
Alberto Morales to make it 1-0 Broncs (11-15, 1-2 WAC).
Kraft settled down from there, allowing just four more base runners before the sixth. In the sixth, however, freshman
Blake Thomas led off with an opposite field double and sophomore PSJA alum
Bryan Ramirez reached on an infield-single, moving Thomas to third. Freshman
Victor Garcia Jr. grounded into a double play, allowing Thomas to score, to make it 2-0.
Junior Broncs starter
Blake English (1-2) cruised through the first six innings, striking out seven while scattering three hits. In the seventh, however, the Aggies put the first two men aboard.
Ryan Wagner lifted a fly ball to deep right field. Howe dropped the ball, allowing a run to score. After a walk loaded the bases,
Jory Goldstrom grounded into an RBI-fielder's choice, and then a wild pitched scored another run to make it 3-2 Aggies.
That made a winner of
Riley Barr (3-0), who retired the final 11 batters of the game.
The Broncs kick-off a five-game road trip on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. when they visit No. 27 TCU.
