Men's Tennis Closes Out Trip Through Louisiana Sunday

LAFAYETTE, La. – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's tennis team closes out their road trip through Louisiana on Sunday when they face the No. 66 University of Louisiana at Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns at the Cajun Courts.
 
Last Time Out
The Broncs (3-14) fell to the University of New Orleans 3-4 on Saturday during a four-hour match.
 
The Broncs took the early advantage in doubles as the team of Ricardo Hopker and Chetan Panditi picked up an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles. After the Privateers won at No. 2 doubles, the duo of Mauricio Fosado and Joseph Bishop clinched the point for the Broncs with an 8-5 victory at No. 3 doubles.
 
Hopker kept things rolling with a win at No. 3 singles as he defeated Gonzalo Garcia 6-2, 6-4. Alejandro Sanoja then went on to defeat Luis Albuquerque 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 at No. 4 singles but the Privateers won the rest of the singles matches to clinch the match.

Scouting the Ragin' Cajuns
The No. 66 Ragin' Cajuns are 15-4 on the season and are coming off of a 4-3 win over UTSA.
 
Hunter Johnson has a 12-0 record for the Ragin' Cajuns while playing in every singles spot except for No. 1 and 2. Jake Wynan is 11-6 in dual match singles competition while posting a 5-2 record at No. 4 singles.
 
Damian Farinola and Edgar Lopez lead the Ragin' Cajuns with a 12-3 doubles record while recording six victories in both the No. 2 and 3 positions. Rick de Groot and Wynan have posted a 9-3 doubles record while playing in all three doubles spots.
 
The Series
The Broncs are 0-7 all-time against the Ragin' Cajuns in a series that dates back to 2001. Both of these teams met earlier in the season at the Orville Cox Tennis Center as the Ragin' Cajuns defeated the Broncs 7-0 on Jan. 25.
 
Globetrotters
The Broncs have eight student-athletes representing six countries including, Argentina, Brazil, Belgium, India, Mexico and the United States. Sanoja is from the Rio Grande Valley as he calls Mission home.
 
Next Up
The Broncs close out their season on April 4 against Laredo Community College at 1 p.m.
