SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team fell to the University of Texas at San Antonio Roadrunners 6-5 on Wednesday at Roadrunner Field.
With the game tied 5-5 and two outs the bottom of the ninth, Broncs (6-7) junior reliever
Blake English (1-1) walked
RJ Perucki.
Horacio Correa III followed with a single to move Correa to third, and then
Mike Warren singled up the middle to end the game.
That made a winner of Roadrunners (9-4) reliever
Matt Sims (1-1), who pitched a perfect ninth, striking out two.
The Broncs got off to a hot start. With one out in the first, sophomore PSJA alum
Bryan Ramirez and senior
Dillon Engelhart hit back-to-back triples. Senior
Alberto Morales reached on an error to score Morales. Senior
Alex Howe walked and sophomore
Jacob Huckabay singled to load the bases. Senior
Brandon Roush followed with an RBI-single to make it 3-0 and knock out Roadrunners starter
Douglas Sefcik.
The Roadrunners got on the board for the first time against
Alex Henson in the third, when
Jesse Baker hit an RBI-single to make it 3-1.
Howe gave the Broncs that run back in the sixth with his first home run. Huckabay followed by reaching on a passed ball while striking out. He moved to second on a wild pitch, to third on a sacrifice bunt and then scored on an error to make it 5-1.
Grant Gibbs hit a two-run double in the bottom of the inning to bring the Roadrunners back within two.
In the seventh, Warren came up with a two-run single to tie the game.
The Broncs return home on Friday at 7 p.m. when they kick-off a three-game home stand against Arlington Baptist. Gates open at 6.
