Sam Street pitched his sixth complete game of the season to lead the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team past the Utah Valley University Wolverines 6-2 on Friday at Brent Brown Ballpark.
Street (8-0), who entered the week second in the NCAA in complete games, allowed just one earned run on six hits and three walks while striking out six. He threw 90 of his 137 pitches (65.7 percent) for strikes.
The Broncs (14-22, 4-6 WAC) supported Street with 10 hits, seven of which went for extra bases, including a two-double day by senior battery mate
Alex Howe, and redshirt freshman Edinburg alum
Edgar Cordon's first-career home run as part of a 2-for-3 day.
The Broncs got on the board against
Andrew Freter (2-5) in the second when redshirt junior Edinburg alum
Lee Rios doubled home sophomore PSJA alum
Bryan Ramirez to make it 1-0.
In the third, after Cordon drew a one-out walk, Howe hit an RBI-double and then senior
Alberto Morales followed with an RBI-single to make it 3-0.
Ramirez led off the sixth with a walk and scored on a one-out double by senior
Shane Ammon. One out later, senior
Evan Mason hit an RBI-double to make it 5-1.
Cordon led off the seventh with his home run to put the Broncs up 6-1.
The Wolverines (13-19, 6-4 WAC) loaded the bases with nobody out against Street in the fourth and got an RBI-fielder's choice by
Beau Kallas to make it 3-1.
The Wolverines scratched across an unearned run in the ninth on a one-out RBI-single by
Greyson Bogden to complete the scoring.
The Broncs and Wolverines play the middle game of this three-game series on Saturday at 7 p.m.
