Box ScoreMESA, Ariz. – The second-seeded University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team closed the Western Athletic Conference Tournament with a 7-4 loss to the sixth-seeded New Mexico State University Aggies on Friday at Cubs Park.
The Broncs (27-30) went down 4-0 in the first three innings, but with one out in the fourth, senior
Alberto Morales and freshman
Victor Garcia Jr. hit singles against
Robert Kraft (4-4) to put runners on the corners and set up a sacrifice fly by sophomore PSJA alum
Bryan Ramirez to make it 4-1.
That's where the score stayed until the seventh, when, with two outs, senior
Evan Mason singled and redshirt junior Edinburg alum
Lee Rios blasted his second home run of the season over the left field wall, which is over 360 feet away, to bring the Broncs within one.
The Aggies (23-30) added three unearned insurance runs in the eighth, meaning that when Rios hit an RBI-single with two outs in the ninth, it made it a three-run game.
Rios finished 2-for-4 with a career-high tying three RBI.
Junior
Blake English (6-4) started for the Broncs, pitching seven and one-third innings, allowing six runs (three earned) on seven hits and one walk while striking out two.
The Aggies got their first three runs with two outs in the second, as, with the bases loaded, Noyer hit a bases-clearing triple to make it 3-0.
The Aggies extended their lead in the fourth when
Michael Paulson reached on an error and scored on a two-out infield-RBI single by
Kyle Young.
