EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros women's soccer team fell to the Grand Canyon University Antelopes 1-0 on Friday at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
 
Vaqueros (2-6-3, 0-3-0 WAC) junior goalkeeper Maria Eriksen (1-2-1, 0-1-0 WAC) made seven saves.
 
The Antelopes (4-5-2, 1-0-1 WAC) scored their lone goal with just over 18 minutes remaining when Madison Cox connected off a rebound in the box. Taylor Layton and Jessica Valadez had the assists.
 
Blakely Fraasch (4-5-2, 1-0-1 WAC) made one save for the shutout.
 
The Antelopes outshot the Vaqueros 17-8, including 8-1 on goal.
 
The Vaqueros are back in action on Sunday at 1 p.m. when they host CSU Bakersfield. Gates open at noon.
