JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros men's basketball team fell to the University of North Florida Ospreys 106-84 on Monday at UNF Arena.
Sophomore
Dan Kimasa lead the Vaqueros (0-2) with a career-high 26 points on a career-best 11-of-14 shooting, to go with four rebounds, a career-high three assists and one block. Freshman
Antonio Green had 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting, including a 3-for-5 performance from three point range, with five rebounds. Senior
Shaquille Hines scored 11 points on 5-of-12 shooting with five rebounds.
Chris Davenport led four Ospreys (2-0) in double-figures scoring with 26 points on 10-of-12 shooting, including 3-of-3 from behind the arc and nine rebounds.
Dallas Moore had 23 points with 10 assists.
Trent Mackey scored 21 points.
Beau Beech added 10 points.
A Hines jumper allowed the Vaqueros to take an early 2-0 lead. The Ospreys responded by scoring 19 of the next 21 points to open up a 19-4 lead on a Davenport three.
The Ospreys pushed their lead to 28 at 48-20 on a Davenport jumper, before the Vaqueros responded with a 9-2 run, capped by a Green three, to pull within 50-29 with 3:04 remaining in the first half.
The Vaqeruos whittled the defecit down to 18 on a Green jumper early in the second half that made it 73-55, but that's as close as they got.
The Vaqueros play their home opener on Friday at 7 p.m. against Texas A&M-Kingsville at the UTRGV Fieldhouse in a game that will be televised lived throughout the state of Texas on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel (323). Doors open at 6.
