BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The sixth-seeded University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros women's soccer team dropped its WAC Tournament Quarterfinals matchup to the third-seeded Missouri-Kansas City Kangaroos 3-0 on Thursday at The Main Soccer Field on the campus of CSU Bakersfield.
The Kangaroos (14-5-1) got the game-winning goal in the 22
nd minute, when
Kelsey Mothershead sent a long through ball to
Lexie Howard who connected from 10 yards out.
Mothershead fed Howard in the 58
th minute as well to make it 3-0, while
Carly Janike scored the second goal on a header off a
Reighan Childers corner kick early in the second half.
Vaqueros (5-12-3) goalkeeper and sophomore Harlingen South alum
Erica Gonzalez (4-8-2) made five saves.
Anna Lillig (7-1-0) made four saves for the shutout.
The 'Roos outshot the Vaqueros 12-6, including 8-4 on goal. Sophomore
Frida Farstad-Eriksson had a team-high two shots, one of which was on goal.
