EDINBURG – Senior
Shaquille Hines grabbed his 500
th career rebound to become the 12
th player in program history to score 1,000 points with 500 rebounds and just the second to add 60 blocks as well as the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros men's basketball team fell to the University of Tennessee at Martin Skyhawks 72-64 on Friday at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.
Hines tied for the game-high with 17 points and eight rebounds. Graduate student
J.J. Thompson also scored 17 points. Graduate student
Dakota Slaughter finished with 13 points.
Twymond Howard led the Skyhawks (3-7) with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Richard Lee scored 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting.
Jacobly Mobley scored 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting.
Alex Anderson finished with 11 points.
The Vaqueros (3-6) led in the opening minutes on a Slaughter layup, but the Skyhawks followed with an 11-2 run to take an 11-4 lead on a Lee layup.

Christopher Ikuenobe hit layups and Hines buried a three to bring the Vaqueros within 34-33.
The Vaqueros tied the game at 51 on a Thompson three-point play with 9:15 remaining before regaining the lead on a pair of Hines free throws that made it 59-58 three minutes later.
The Skyhawks, however, scored the next nine points as part of a 13-2 run to put the game away.
The Vaqueros are back in action on Sunday at 2 p.m. when they visit Texas State.
