Andrew Padron combined on a five-hit shutout in a 7-0 victory over the Jackson State University Tigers in the final game of the JSU Tournament on Saturday at Robert Braddy Field.
Gallegos went the first seven, striking out four while allowing five hits, four of which were singles, and three walks. Padron struck out two in two perfect innings to end the game.
Sophomore
Victor Garcia Jr. continued to lead the Broncs (2-2) offensively, going 2-for-3 with a walk, two RBI and two runs scored. He finished the weekend hitting a team-best .467 (7-for-15) with two walks, three doubles, one home run, eight RBI and three runs scored.
The Broncs led 1-0 entering the seventh, and that's when the floodgates opened. Garcia hit a two-run double and then sophomore
Jacob Huckabay and sophomore Edinburg alum
Edgar Cordon hit back-to-back RBI-singles to make it 5-0.
The Broncs added single runs in the eighth and ninth, on a sacrifice fly by senior
Jesus Garcia, and a wicked hopper hit by junior
Scott Mercer that was ruled an error on third baseman
Jevon Jacobs, respectively, to put the game away.
The Broncs play their home opener on Friday at 7 p.m. against Abilene Christian at Edinburg Baseball Stadium in the opening game of the Al Ogletree Classic. Gates open at 6.
