Box ScorePhoto GalleryEDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's basketball team hit four three pointers in the first seven minutes of the game to open up the offense in a 68-57 victory over the Seattle U Redhawks on Saturday at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
Sophomore
Janari Joesaar got the ball rolling in the opening minutes by nailing a three, and then, with the Broncs (9-17, 3-7 WAC) up 5-3, senior
Shaquille Boga hit a three to put the Broncs up five. After a pair of
Jarrell Flora layups made it a one-point game, Joesaar made back-to-back threes to put the Broncs up 14-7.
The Redhawks (11-13, 4-6 WAC) responded with an 11-2 run to take their only lead of the game at 18-16, but Joesaar answered with a three as the Broncs hit 11 of their next 14 shots, including both of their three-point attempts, to build a 43-30 lead with 17:19 remaining.
In total, the Broncs went 7-for-14 (.500) from behind the arc, opening up the inside shooting as the Broncs were 16-for-30 (.533) from inside the arc.
Joesaar finished with five three-pointers in nine attempts en route to a team-high 23 points. Boga hit two threes and went 6-for-7 from the line while scoring 16 points with six assists and no turnovers. Junior
Shaquille Hines scored 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting with five rebounds. Freshman
Elijah Watson scored a career-high 10 points with five rebounds and seven assists.
Flora led the Redhawks with 25 points on 10-of-19 shooting.
Isiah Umipig scored 18 points.
The Broncs kick off their final road trip of the regular season on Thursday at 8 p.m. when they visit Grand Canyon.
