Box ScoreKANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's basketball team fell to the Kansas City Kangaroos 70-45 on Thursday at Municipal Auditorium.
Junior
Shaquille Hines led the Broncs (8-15, 2-5 WAC) with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Sophomore
Janari Joesaar scored 13 points with nine rebounds (six offensive). The Broncs outrebounded the Kangaroos (10-14, 5-2 WAC) 35-29, including 15-11 on the offensive glass.
Martez Harrison led the Kangaroos with 20 points, six assists and three steals.
Broderick Newbill scored 11 points with five rebounds.
Darius Austin scored 10 points with four rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
The Broncs had a few early leads, going up 3-2 on a Joesaar three, 5-4 on a Hines jumper, and 7-6 on a jumper by freshman
Dan Kimasa.
The game was still tight with 6:27 remaining in the first half when Hines came up with a dunk to bring the Broncs within 21-17, but the Kangaroos closed the half on a 13-2 run to build a 34-19 lead.
Hines hit a pair of baskets in the early minutes of the second half to help the Broncs pull within 39-27, but a Newbill layup sparked a 9-0 run as the Kangaroos went up by 21.
The Broncs pulled within 50-35 on a pair of Hines free throws with 9:08 remaining, but that's as close as they got.
The Broncs are back in action on Saturday at 2:05 p.m. when they visit Chicago State.
