Box ScorePhoto GalleryEDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's basketball team hit a season-high tying 11 three-pointers to beat the Kansas City Kangaroos 69-51 on Thursday at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
The Broncs are now 12-10 for the second time in program history and the first time since 2004-05. The Broncs are now 5-2 in conference play for the second year in a row and third time in program history.
The Broncs are also 9-2 at home, marking the second year in a row the Broncs have recorded nine home wins, tying for the second highest total in program history.
The Broncs look to improve to 13-10 for the first time in program history, 6-2 in conference play for the second time in program history and first time since 2009-10, and win their 10
th home game for the third time in program history and first time since 2008-09 when they host Chicago State on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
Sophomore
Shawnte' Goff led the Broncs with 19 points while hitting four three-pointers. Senior
Tonisha Walker scored a career-high 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-8 from behind the arc.
Calli White led the Kangaroos (4-18, 2-5 WAC) with 13 points.
Aries Washington scored 10 points with a game-high nine rebounds.
Grace Mitchell scored 10 points with six rebounds.
The game was back and forth over the opening minutes, but with the game tied at 6-6, Goff hit a pair of three-pointers to bookend a 16-6 run that included two Walker threes as well, making the scored 22-12.
After the Kangaroos hit back-to-back baskets to pull within six, the Broncs scored seven-straight points as part of another 16-6 run to go up 38-22 on a jumper by junior
Rickell Preston with 21 seconds left in the half.
The Broncs extended their lead to 19 at 45-26 on a Walker three early in the second half. Then, after back-to-back White three-pointers, the Broncs went on an 8-0 run, capped by a three by freshman
Hildur Björg Kjartansdóttir to take their largest lead of the game at 53-32.
