Box ScoreEDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team fell 7-6 in 11 innings to the Arlington Baptist Patriots in the middle game of their three-game series Saturday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Tied at six in the top of the 11
th,
Ryan Wagley hit a double to the right field corner and advanced to third after an error on the play. Later in the inning with the bases loaded,
Tyler Brown drove in Wagley from third on a fielder's choice giving the Patriots (10-13) the 7-6.
Wagley closed out the ball game with a scoreless bottom of the 11th inning as he earned the win.
Matt Rigby (1-1) took the loss for the Broncs (9-6) after pitching three and a third innings and allowing two runs.
The Broncs got the scoring started in the bottom of the third against starter
Erick Garcia. A pair of walks and a hit by pitch loaded the bases for
Jesus Garcia whole delivered an RBI sacrifice fly that allowed
Edgar Cordon to score from third.
Logan Landon then stretched his hitting streak to 12 games with an RBI infield single that scored
Isaac Gonzalez making it 2-0 Broncs.
The Patriots (9-13) answered in the top of the fourth inning as they put together three straight hits including RBI singles from
Florentino Moreno and
Jacob Simons to tie the game at two.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Broncs regained the lead after an RBI sacrifice fly by
Victor Garcia Jr. but the Patriots answered with two runs in the top of the sixth to take the 4-3 lead. Garcia Jr. finished the night 4-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
A bases loaded RBI walk to Landon in the bottom of the sixth tied the game at four and then the Broncs and Patriots traded runs in the seventh and eighth to send it to extra innings.
Broncs' starter
Ryan Jackson took a no decision after pitching five and two-third innings while allowing four runs on eight hits and tying a career-high with eight strikeouts.
The Broncs and the Patriots wrap up their series Sunday at 12:05 p.m. Any fan that brings four non-perishable food items will receive a free ticket to Sunday's game as part of the Broncs' partnership with RGV Food Bank known as "Strike Out Hunger". Gates open at 11 a.m.
