Box ScorePhoto GalleryLAS VEGAS, Nev. – The third-seeded University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's basketball team fell to the top-seeded New Mexico State University Aggies 70-52 in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament Championship Game on Saturday at Orleans Arena.
The Broncs (19-14) will find out on Monday whether or not they will be chosen for one of the three women's basketball postseason tournaments.
Sophomore
Shawnte' Goff scored 11 points en route to earning All-WAC Tournament Team honors after averaging 14.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.7 steals in three games.
Senior
Cha'zaye Wright led the Broncs with 15 points while going a career-best 9-for-10 from the foul line. She also had a career-high tying eight rebounds.
Sasha Weber led the Aggies (22-7) with 20 points while hitting six three-pointers to go with seven rebounds.
Brianna Freeman scored 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting with nine rebounds.
Shanice Davis scored 14 points.
The Broncs scored the first three points of the game on a free throw by senior
Brittany Bush and a layup by Goff, but Davis hit a three, Freeman made a layup and
Abby Scott knocked down a three to give the Aggies the lead.
The Broncs pulled back within two on a three by senior
Tonisha Walker, but Weber made back-to-back threes as the Aggies went on a 25-7 run, capped by another Weber three, to go up 33-13 with 6:23 remaining in the first half.
The Aggies shot 69.2 percent (18-for-26) from the field and 64.3 percent (9-for-14) from behind the arc in the first half while building a 46-27 lead.
The Aggies opened the second half on an 11-2 run over the first eight minutes to put the game out of reach.
The Broncs played strong defense in the second half, holding the Aggies to 17.4 percent shooting (4-for-23), including an 0-for-6 showing from behind the arc.
