EDINBURG – Freshman starter Robert Quinonez tossed his first-career complete game shut out as he led the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team to a 7-0 win over the Arlington Baptist Patriots on Sunday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Quinonez (2-0) earned his second win of the season after holding the Patriots (10-14) to five hits while setting a new career-high in strikeouts with eight. He allowed just one runner past first base, which came in the third after giving up back-to-back singles but got out of the jam on a triple play.

The Broncs (10-6) got all the runs Quinonez need in the bottom of the third inning. With two outs and the bases loaded, sophomore Victor Garcia Jr. delivered a two-run single that allowed freshmen Isaac Gonzalez and Manny Loredo to score. An error later in the inning added another run as senior Logan Landon came in to score to make it 3-0.

Landon extended his hitting streak to 13 games after going 2-for-5 on Sunday. He led off the fifth inning with a single and then two batters later he came into score on an RBI single by sophomore Jacob Huckabay. The Broncs added another run after a double play allowed Garcia Jr. to score, which pushed their lead to 5-0.

Gonzalez led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a single, as he went 3-for-4 in the ball game. He moved to third on a double by junior Cole Loncar and then a pair of RBI groundouts by Loredo and Landon allowed both Gonzalez and Loncar to score the final runs of the game.

The Broncs hit the road as they begin a six-game road trip starting at No. 1 Texas Christian University on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The game will be aired live on Fox Sports Southwest (FSSW). It can be found in the Rio Grande Valley on Time Warner Cable channels 63, 304 (SD) and 1304 (HD), Dish Network channel 416, and DirectTv channel 676.
