ARLINGTON – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's tennis team to the No. 63 ranked University of Texas at Arlington Mavericks 2-4 on Thursday at the UTA Tennis Center.
 
"We challenged a ranked team at their place and came up short," Broncs head coach Brandon Stokes said. "Give credit to UT Arlington for making consistent plays that we failed to do."
 
The Broncs (3-8) got out to an early lead after they clinched the doubles point with a pair of victories. After falling on court three, the Broncs rallied with a win at No. 2 doubles as the team of Hector Ramirez and Nikola Crvelin defeated Sebastian Erimicioiu and Pablo Colvee 6-1. The team of Koby Jansen and Juan Cruz Soria followed with a 7-5 victory over Johnathan Gonzalez and Mario Muniesa at No. 1 doubles to clinch the doubles point.
 
"We started strong with the doubles point, which we expect to do," Stokes said. "They took the momentum right back within 45 minutes though. We just couldn't get over the hump. The energy and spirit is strong in our Broncs but we must continue to improve."
 
The Mavericks (9-4) turned things around as they picked up wins on courts six, four and five to open up singles play. Ramirez gave the Broncs another point with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Stefan Williams at No. 2 singles but the Mavericks clinched the match with another victory at No. 3 singles. The match on court one went unfinished once the match was decided. 
 
The Broncs are back in action on Saturday when they visit St. Edwards University at 11 a.m. in Austin.
