Box ScoreSACRAMENTO, Calif. – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team dropped the series finale of a three-game set to the Sacramento State University Hornets 10-2 on Sunday at John Smith Field.
The Broncs (10-11, 0-3 WAC) outhit the Hornets (13-9, 3-0 WAC) 12-to-9 with an offense led by junior
Correy Davis, who went 3-for-4, senior
Logan Landon, who went 2-for-5 with a run scored, junior
Scott Mercer, who went 2-for-4 with a run scored, and senior
Jesus Garcia who also went 2-for-5.
The Broncs led 1-0 on an RBI-single by sophomore
Jacob Huckabay with two outs in the first, but the Hornets scored five runs in the bottom of the inning on an RBI-single by
PJ Floyd, a two-run double by
Dane Fujinaka, and a two-run home run by
Devin Lehman.
The Broncs got an one of those runs back in the fourth when junior
Cole Loncar reached on an error, allowing Mercer to score, but the Hornets scored runs on throwing errors in the sixth and seventh, a Lehman RBI-single in the seventh, and a two-run home run by
Kyle Moses in the eighth, to push the game out of reach.
Lehman finished 3-for-3 with a walk, three RBI and two runs scored. Floyd went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
That made a winner of
Ty Nichols (1-0), who came on in relief in the fifth and pitched three scoreless innings, striking out three while allowing three hits.
Freshman Nikki Rowe alum
Ryan Jackson (1-2) started for the Broncs, giving up six runs (five earned) on seven hits and five walks while striking out six in six innings.
Justin Dillon started for the Hornets, pitching four innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits while striking out two.
The Broncs complete this six-game road trip on Monday at 6 p.m. when they visit the Unviersity of the Pacific.
