Box ScoreEDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's basketball team fell to the New Mexico State University Aggies 69-48 on Wednesday at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
Junior
Everett Osborne led the Broncs (9-20, 3-10 WAC) with 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting, including a career-best 3-of-5 from behind the arc. Senior
Shaquille Boga scored 10 points with four assists and two steals.
Tshildizi Nephawe led the Aggies (20-10, 12-1 WAC) with 19 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks.
Ian Baker scored 13 points while
Daniel Mullings finished with 12.
The Broncs and Aggies traded baskets early, as freshman
Dan Kimasa hit a pair of layups, junior
Shaquille Hines made a pair of jumpers and Boga knocked down a pair of layups to make the score 15-12 Aggies after nine minutes.
The Aggies, however, hit 4-of-5 shots while going 4-of-5 from the line and forcing five turnovers over the next five minutes to go on a 12-2 run and take a 27-14 lead on a
Remi Barry jumper.
Down 12 early in the second half, the Broncs scored six-straight points, cutting the deficit in half on a pair of Kimasa free throws with 17:17 remaining.
The Broncs kept the game within seven over the next few minutes, pulling within 40-33 on a three by sophomore
Janari Joesaar, 45-38 on a Kimasa free throw, 48-41 on an Osborne three-pointer, and 50-43 on a Hines layup, but the Aggies closed the game on a 19-5 run.
The Broncs close out the regular season on Saturday at 2 p.m. when they host Kansas City at the UTPA Fieldhouse in a game that will be televised nationally on American Sports Network. There will be a pregame celebration beginning in the parking lot at 12:30. The first 2,000 fans through the doors when they open at 1 will receive free UTRGV Vaqueros t-shirts.
