Shaquille Boga hit a game-winning three-pointer with 0.28 seconds left to lift the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's basketball team to a 53-51 come from behind victory over the Kansas City Kangaroos on Saturday in front of a near-capacity crowd of 2,308.
The Broncs (10-20, 4-10 WAC) trailed 51-44 with 2:22 remaining, but that's when Boga hit a jumper. Then, after a pair of free throws by junior
Shaquille Hines, Boga nailed a three to tie the game at 51 with 1:14 left.
Deshon Taylor missed a jumper with 32 seconds to go. Boga grabbed the rebound, and then knocked down a jumper just before time expired to cap the 9-0 run and the win.
Boga led the Broncs with 26 points on 11-of-21 shooting to go with five rebounds. Sophomore
Janari Joesaar also reached double-figures in scoring, finishing with 10 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Martez Harrison led the Kangaroos (13-18, 8-6 WAC) with 16 points.
Reese Holliday scored 15 points.
Holliday hit a pair of free throws and Martez made a jumper as the 'Roos jumped out to a 4-0 lead. The Broncs took their first lead at 11-10 on a layup by junior
Andreas Bigum at the end of a 5-0 run, but the 'Roos responded with a 7-1 run to go up 17-12 on a Holliday layup.
Boga tied the game at 26-26 with a jumper with 14 seconds left in the first half, but the 'Roos scored the last two points of the first half and first four of the second half to go up 32-26.
The Broncs responded with an 8-2 run to tie the game on a layup by junior
Everett Osborne before taking the lead back on a Boga three that made it 41-40 with 8:46 to go. The 'Roos answered with an 11-3 run to take their largest led of the game at seven before the Broncs started their comeback.
The seventh-seeded Broncs open up the WAC Tournament Quarterfinals on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. CDT against second-seeded Kansas City at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
