Box ScoreBAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team fell to the Bakersfield Roadrunners 15-3 in seven innings on Saturday at Hardt Field.
James Barragan (4-3) held the Broncs (12-21, 0-11 WAC) to three hits and three walks, striking out six in six innings. Senior
Jesus Garcia had two of those hits, including an RBI-single in the sixth. That was followed by a wild pitch to score junior
Cole Loncar from third, at which point the score became 15-2.
The Broncs added a run with two outs in the seventh when freshman McAllen Memorial alum
Manny Loredo doubled and junior
Scott Mercer singled him home.
The Roadrunners (19-14-1, 7-3-1 WAC) scored their first eight runs (seven earned) with two outs over the course of the first three innings against senior
Blake English (2-4).
With two outs in the first,
Max Carter hit an RBI-single and
Ryan Grotjohn followed with a two-run home run to make it 3-0.
In the second,
Jordie Hein hit an RBI-single and Mercer threw away the potential third out after a grounder by
Joey Sanchez to make it 5-0.
The next three runs came in the third on an RBI-single by
Mylz Jones and a two-run single by Hein.
The Roadrunners scored five runs with nobody out in the fourth against freshman
George Lamb. With the bases loaded,
Soloman Williams hit an RBI-single,
Chance Gusbeth was plunked and Jones hit a bases clearing triple to make it 13-0.
Kris Cayton added on for the Roadrunners with a two-run double against senior
Clayton Haltom in the fifth to make it 15-0.
The Broncs and Roadrunners complete this three-game series on Sunday at 2 p.m.
