Box ScoreBAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team fell to the Bakersfield Roadrunners 4-1 on Sunday at Hardt Field.
The Broncs (12-22, 0-12 WAC) drew eight walks over the first five innings, scoring an unearned run without the benefit of a hit.
Sophomore
Victor Garcia Jr. led off the second with a walk. Junior
Correy Davis followed with a ground ball that was thrown away, allowing Garcia to advance to third, from where he scored on a suicide squeeze by junior
Scott Mercer.
Davis led off the sixth with a single against reliever
Steven Gee (4-2). It was the Broncs' only hit.
Gee pitched the final 4.2 innings, striking out two.
The Roadrunners (20-14-1, 8-3-1 WAC) scored all of their runs in the first against junior
Parker Gallegos (2-3). With runners on the corners and one out,
David Metzgar executed a suicide squeeze. Then, with the bases loaded and two outs,
Soloman Williams hit a two-run double and
Chance Gusbeth hit an RBI-single.
Gallegos pitched the first 4.2 innings, allowing seven hits and three walks while striking out two. Freshman
Robert Quinonez finished up with 3.1 innings of three-hit ball, striking out two.
The Broncs are back in action on Wednesday at 2 p.m. when they visit Incarnate Word.
