Box ScorePRAIRIE VIEW – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team set a new season-high in scoring by beating the Prairie View A&M University Panthers 14-4 in a game that ended after seven innings due to the 10-run rule on Tuesday at Tankersley Field.
It is the Broncs' (14-23-1) highest scoring output since a 15-3 win over Arlington Baptist on March 23, 2013. It is the Broncs' highest scoring output against an NCAA Division I opponent since an 18-13 win at UTSA on March 27, 2012.
The Broncs finished with 14 hits, including three-hit performances by seniors
Logan Landon and
Jesus Garcia, and sophomore
Victor Garcia Jr.Landon's big hit was a three-run home run off the scoreboard to complete the scoring in the sixth. He is now tied for the WAC lead with seven home runs.
Victor Garcia Jr. also homered, smashing a two-run shot, his fourth of the season, to go with two doubles, a career-high five RBI and a career-high three runs scored.
Jesus Garcia tied his career high with three runs scored while driving in two runs.
The Broncs trailed 1-0 after an inning, but in the second, after a single by junior
Correy Davis and a one-out walk by
Victor Garcia Jr. against
Charles Philpott (1-6), the Broncs attempted a double steal. The throw sailed into left field, allowing Davis to score to tie the game. One out later, freshman McAllen Memorial alum
Manny Loredo singled to center to put the Broncs up 2-1.
In the next inning, the Broncs put runners at second and third with one out, setting up a two-run single by
Jesus Garcia.
Victor Garcia Jr. followed with an RBI-double to make it 5-1.
Garcia then hit his home run in the fifth to make it 7-1.
In the sixth, junior
Cole Loncar came up with an RBI-double and Davis followed with an RBI-single. After another single by
Jesus Garcia,
Victor Garcia Jr. doubled down the line to drive-in a pair. Landon capped the seven-run inning with his home run to left-center.
The Panthers (10-30) scored their only run on their only two hits against senior
Alex Henson (1-0) right away, as
Walter Wells led off with a double, and out later, scored on an RBI-single by
Joseph Mack to make it 1-0.
Henson was perfect the rest of the way, completing a season-high four innings, striking out three.
The Panthers added two more runs in the sixth and one in the seventh.
The Broncs return home on Friday at 7 p.m. when they open up a three-game series against Northern Colorado at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
