EDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team fell to the University of Northern Colorado Bears 8-7 to close out the series on Sunday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
 
Down 4-3 with one out in the bottom of the seventh, the Broncs (15-25-1, 2-15-1 WAC) rallied for three runs on a two-run triple by senior Logan Landon and a sacrifice fly by sophomore Jacob Huckabay to take the lead.
 
In the top of the eighth, however, the Bears (15-22, 11-7 WAC) batted around while taking the lead. Senior Blake English, who pitched seven innings of relief, started the inning with a walk. Sophomore Nikki Rowe alum Andrew Padron (2-4) followed by allowing back-to-back singles, the second of which, by Jake Tapia, drove-in a run. Jake Ek followed with a fielder's choice, but Padron threw the ball away, allowing a run to score. Johnny Gonzalez came in and allowed an RBI-groundout to Reyn Sugai and an RBI-single to Jensen Park before escaping the inning.
 
The Broncs tried to rally against Justin Mulvaney (2-1) in the ninth, as Huckabay doubled off the wall to drive-in junior Sharyland alum Alexis Hernandez, but junior Cole Loncar struck out to end the game.
 
Nick Tanner held the Broncs to three hits over 5.2 innings, two of which came off the bat of junior Correy Davis.
 
Down 3-0, the Broncs put two on with one out in the fourth after a walk and a hit batsman, setting up an RBI-double down the line by Davis. Senior Jesus Garcia followed with an RBI-groundout to make it 3-2.
 
The Broncs tied the game in the sixth. With two outs, junior Cole Loncar doubled and Davis reached on an infield-single to knock out Tanner. Allen Cook came in and threw a wild pitch to allow the Broncs to tie the game.
 
The Bears took the lead back immediately when Park launched his fourth home run of the season in the top of the seventh.
 
The Bears led 2-0 before an out was recorded, taking advantage of a wild pitch and an RBI-single by Brandon Vaughn to knock out senior Alex Henson after three batters.
 
The other Bears run came in the fourth on a two-out RBI-single by Ek.
 
The Broncs are back in action on Tuesday at 2 p.m. when they visit Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for a doubleheader to close out non-conference play.
