Box ScoreCORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team completed the doubleheader sweep of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders with a 7-3 victory in game two on Tuesday at Chapman Field.
The Broncs (17-25-1) finish the season 3-1 against the Islanders (20-21), marking the first time the Broncs have won the season series since 2012. That was also the last time the Broncs swept the Islanders in a doubleheader.
Junior
Cole Loncar led the Broncs by going 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and one run scored. He drove-in the Broncs' first run with a double down the left field line against
Garrett Harris (2-3) in the first. He then used his speed to create the Broncs' second run, scoring from second on a wild pitch in the third. That run broke a 1-1 tie and gave the Broncs the lead for good.
The Broncs scored two more runs on wild pitches while taking advantage of a fourth inning squeeze by freshman Edinburg alum
Michael Harrison and a fifth-inning RBI-single by Loncar to go up 6-1.
With the Broncs' lead cut to 6-3 in the eighth, senior
Logan Landon grounded into a fielder's choice to bring home senior Edinburg alum
Lee Rios and complete the scoring.
Freshman
George Lamb (1-0) earned his first-career win by pitching the first 2.2 innings, allowing one run on two hits. He was one of four Broncs to pitch at least two innings, as freshman Nikki Rowe alum
Ryan Jackson struck out three while allowing one hit in 2.1 innings, sophomore Nikki Rowe alum
Andrew Padron allowed two unearned runs on three hits in two innings, and freshman Harlingen South alum
Zach Martinez finished up with two innings of one-hit ball.
The Broncs resume conference play on Friday at 5 p.m. when they open up a three-game series at North Dakota.
