Box ScoreEDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team snapped a seven-game skid by beating the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders 11-1 in seven innings in game one of a doubleheader on Tuesday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Senior
Logan Landon led the Broncs (12-18) by going 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored. Senior
Cole Loncar went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored while freshman McAllen Memorial alum
Manny Loredo went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
Up 9-1 entering the seventh, Landon led off with his sixth home run of the season, tied for the Western Athletic Conference lead. One out later, with senior
Jesus Garcia at third, Loredo hit a walk-off double to end the game.
Junior
Parker Gallegos (2-2) picked up his first home win by pitching his first complete game, allowing one run on six hits without issuing a walk and striking out two in seven innings.
After the Islanders (13-15) scored their only run on an errant pickoff throw in the top of the first, the Broncs responded by putting up a three-spot in the bottom of the inning against
Jared Jordan (0-1).
With a runner at second and one out, Landon smacked an RBI-ground rule double, and then, after Garcia was plunked, junior
Correy Davis put the Broncs on top with an RBI-single. During the next at-bat, Jordan threw a wild pitch to bring home Garcia and make it 3-1.
The Broncs added on in the fourth as, with the bases loaded and one out, redshirt junior Sharyland alum
Alexis Hernandez recorded the first two RBI of his career with a single. Loncar followed with an RBI-single, sophomore
Victor Garcia Jr. grounded out to drive-in a run, and Landon hit an RBI-single. Landon stole second, setting up an RBI-single by
Jesus Garcia to cap the inning with the Broncs up 9-1.
