EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's basketball team rallied from a 13-point deficit to tie the game, but Delanie Parry hit a three-pointer with six seconds left to send the Seattle U Redhawks to a 74-71 victory on Saturday at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.

The Vaqueros (13-8, 5-1 WAC) trailed 63-50 with six and a half minutes remaining when sophomore Hildur Björg Kjartansdóttir made a layup and freshman Weslaco alum Laura Van Tilburg made a pair of free throws to make it a nine-point game.

A Tal Sahar three-point play pushed the Redhawks' (9-11, 3-2 WAC) lead back to 12 and it was still an 11-point game with 2:45 remaining after a Taelor Ross free throw, but freshman Idil Türk nailed a three to kick-off a 7-0 run as the Vaqueros pulled within 68-64 with 55 seconds left.

Twenty seconds later, the Vaqueros trailed by five, but junior Shawnte' Goff made a three and then Turk picked off a pass from Parry and made the game-tying layup with 14.3 seconds left.

The Vaqueros were unable to get a shot off after Parry's game-winning basket.

Turk led the Vaqueros with a career-high 15 points on a career-best 5-of-9 shooting, including a career-best 4-of-8 from behind the arc. Junior Anushka Maldonado scored 13 points with eight rebounds, four assists and three steals. Goff scored 13 points with seven assists and three steals. Senior Rickell Preston scored nine points with a game-high 10 rebounds and three assists.

Sahar led the Redhawks with 21 points. Ashlyn Lewey scored 13 points. Jacinta Beckley finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Maldonado hit a pair of layups in the opening minute to give the Vaqueros a 4-0 lead, but the Redhawks scored the next five points to take the lead. Türk responded with a three to put the Vaqueros back on top.

The Vaqueros pushed their lead to two possessions for the first time when a Maldonado three made it 17-12 early in the second quarter, but Sahar and Beckley knocked down threes to put the Redhawks up 18-17.

Later in the quarter, with the game tied at 23, Kjartansdóttir hit a three to spark a 9-0 run to give the Vaqueros a 32-23 lead at the start of the third quarter.

The Redhawks, however, outscored the Vaqueros 28-13 over the rest of the quarter to take a 51-45 lead. This included nine-straight points as part of a 12-3 run to close the quarter.

Sahar hit another three at the start of the fourth quarter to make it a nine-point game for the first time.

The Vaqueros pulled within seven on a Kjartansdóttir layup at the 8:04 mark, but the Redhawks scored the next six points to go up 63-50 on a Sahar layup.

The Vaqueros are back in action on Saturday at 7 p.m. for a WAC Tournament Championship rematch against New Mexico State at the UTRGV Fieldhouse. The first 200 fans in attendance will receive "Unfinished Business" t-shirts. Doors open at 6.
