AUSTIN – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros men's tennis team hits the road for a pair of matches this week starting with the Concordia University Tornados on Friday at 2 p.m. at River Place Country Club.
Last Time OutThe Vaqueros faced the Texas A&M-Corpus Christ Islanders in their first road match of the season as they fell 1-6 at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
Sophomore
Ethan Ammon recorded the lone point for the Vaqueros (1-1) after defeating Guillaume Rauseo 6-3, 6-7, 10-2 on court three.
Scouting the TornadosThe Tornados return to dual competition after a seven-year hiatus and are opening their spring dual match season against the Vaqueros before heading to Brownwood, Texas to face Howard Payne University on Saturday.
Daniel Whitehead, who was a standout at the University of Texas, leads both the men's and women's programs at Concordia.
Jack Proctor is the lone senior on the squad while everyone else is either a sophomore or freshman.
Gabriel Borunda won his first tournament at the ASC Fall Invitational and also made the championship match at the Doc Skogman Invitational.
The All-Time SeriesThis is the first ever meeting against Concordia as the Tornados' program is returning to team competition after a seven-year hiatus.
GlobetrottersThe Vaqueros currently have eight student-athletes on the roster representing six different countries, including the Trinidad and Tobago, Mexico, Australia, Spain, Israel and Argentina.
Next UpThe Vaqueros will be back in action on Sunday, January 31 when they head to Dallas to face the No. 49 SMU Mustangs at 4 p.m.
