OREM, Utah – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros men's basketball team fell to the Utah Valley University Wolverines 98-65 on Saturday at the UCCU Center.
 
Freshman Antonio Green led the Vaqueros (4-13, 0-2 WAC) with 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including 3-of-4 from behind the arc, with six rebounds and six assists. Sophomore Dan Kimasa scored 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting, plus 4-of-5 from the line, with four rebounds and one block.
 
Jaden Jackson led the Wolverines (7-10, 1-1 WAC) with 31 points while going 9-for-12 from behind the arc. Ivory Young scored 17 points with six rebounds, six assists and four steals. Marcel Davis scored 13 points with seven rebounds and nine assists. Konner Frey scored 13 points with six reobunds and five assists.
 
The game was tight early, as layups by Kimasa tied the game at 2 and 4 before a layup by senior Shaquille Hines tied the game at 6. Young and Jackson each hit a pair of threes, however, as the Wolverines scored 21-straight points as part of a 32-5 run that saw the Wolverines take their largest lead of the half at 38-11 with 9:50 remaining.
 
The Vaqueros used a 9-2 run to pull within 14 seven minutes into the second half when a pair of Hines free throws made it 58-44.
 
The Vaqueros were still within 63-49 two minutes later after a three by graduate student Dakota Slaughter, but the Wolverines scored the next six points to push the game out of reach.
 
The Vaqueros play their WAC home opener on Thursday at 7 p.m. against Chicago State at the UTRGV Fieldhouse. The first 75 fans in attendance will receive WAC t-shirts. Doors open at 6.
