EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's basketball team hit a program record 19 three-pointers to win its fifth-straight home game, 97-81 over Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) on Thursday at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.

UTRGV (7-9) shot a season-high .528 (19-for-36) from behind the arc.

Sophomore Antonio Green led UTRGV with 29 points on 9-of-17 shooting, all of which was from behind the arc. Green has now made 70 three-pointers this year, retaking the NCAA lead from NJIT's Damon Lynn (66). Junior Nick Dixon scored 20 points with four assists. Freshman Xavier McDaniel Jr. scored 17 points while going 3-for-4 from behind the arc. Freshman Lesley Varner Jr. hit both of his three-pointers while scoring 10 points. Junior McAllen-native Moe McDonald went 3-for-4 from behind the arc en route to nine points.

Joe Jackson led OLLU with 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists. PJ Escobar scored 16 points with six rebounds and four assists.

OLLU led for much of the first half, opening the game on a 7-0 run that was capped by an Escobar three. After missing its first two three-pointers of the game, OLLU hit nine of its next 10.

During the same period of time, though, UTRGV went 8-for-13 from behind the arc to stay within 38-34.

UTRGV used a pair of threes by Green and a pair by McDaniel to close the half on a 14-2 run to take a 48-40 lead.

Then, early in the second half, with the lead 59-50, Dixon and Green hit three-pointers as UTRGV scored 10-straight points as part of a 21-6 run to take a game-high 24-point lead at 80-56 with 9:02 remaining.

OLLU responded with a 20-7 run to climb within 87-76, but that's as close as it got.
