EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's basketball team shot a season-high .481 from behind the arc to beat Texas State 72-61 on Wednesday at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.
UTRGV (3-8) finished 13-for-27 from behind the arc, marking the second-most three-pointers UTRGV has hit in a game and the most in a regulation game this season.
Sophomore
Antonio Green led UTRGV with 20 points on 7-of-17 shooting, including 5-of-12 from behind the arc, with six rebounds and two assists. Junior
Nick Dixon scored 14 points with three rebounds, five assists, one block and one steal. Junior
Mike Hoffman finished with 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting.
Kavin Gildur-Tilbury led Texas State (4-4) with 20 points on 8-of-16 shooting and seven rebounds.
Bobby Conley scored 13 points with five rebounds.
UTRGV jumped out to a 7-1 lead on a pair of Dixon baskets and a Green three-pointer. Then, after Texas State scored the next seven points to take its only lead, UTRGV scored 14-straight points as part of a 19-3 run to take a 26-11 lead at the 9:03 mark of the first half. During the run, UTRGV went 7-for-9 from the field while forcing six turnovers and holding Texas State 1-for-3.

Lew Stallworth and Dixon all hit threes to power a 14-5 run that put UTRGV up 40-27 at the start of the second half.
Then, with the score 42-29, Gilder-Tilbury scored seven points to power a 13-6 run that brought Texas State within 48-42.
Texas State was still within six at 55-49 with 9:06 remaining, but Dixon and Green hit threes as part of a 10-1 run to push the game out of reach.
UTRGV is back in action Monday at 7 p.m. when it hosts North Florida at the UTRGV Fieldhouse in a game that will be televised nationally on American Sports Network and regionally on Spectrum Sports channel 323. Fans that donate a new unwrapped children's toy will receive free general admission. Current UTRGV students, who already receive free general admission, will receive free popcorn. All toy donations benefit the Salvation Army's Adopt an Angel program. Doors open at 6.
