Men's Tennis to Face No. 3 Texas A&M and Prairie View A&M in Doubleheader Friday

COLLEGE STATION – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros men's tennis team kicks off the month of February with a doubleheader against No. 3 Texas A&M and Prairie View A&M on Friday at the Mitchell Tennis Center.  
 
The Vaqueros will face off against Texas A&M at 12 p.m. and then will face the Panthers at 6 p.m.
 
Last Time Out
The Vaqueros (2-2) visited the No. 49 SMU Mustangs on Sunday as they fell 1-6 in their second match of the weekend.
 
Yehonatan Kaufman recorded the lone point for the Vaqueros as he picked up a point on court four after defeating Charles Nettlefold 6-3, 7-5.

The win for Kaufman earned him WAC Player of the Week honors after he went 2-0 in singles. Kaufman leads the team with three singles victories in the spring.
 
Scouting the Aggies
The Aggies are currently ranked No. 3 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association men's team rankings with a 5-0 record on the season. Four of their five wins this season have come at home at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
 
The Aggies are coming off of a 4-2 win over No. 4 Baylor on Wednesday.
 
Texas A&M is 20-3 in singles in the dual match season with AJ Catanzariti, Shane Vinsant and Jackson Withrow leading the way with 3-0 records. The Aggies have 12 different players with at least one singles win this spring.
 
The Aggies have lost just one doubles match this spring with a 10-1 record. Withrow and Arthur Rinderknech have teamed for a 4-0 record, while playing two matches at the No.1 spot and the other two matches at the No. 2 spot.
 
Jordi Arconada and Max Lunkin are 3-0 while Cantanzariti and Vinsant also have a 3-0 record.
 
Scouting the Panthers
The Panthers are 0-5 on the season and are coming off of a 0-7 loss to No. 4 Baylor. All of their matches have been away from their home courts.
 
The Panthers return six from last year's squad with a pair of seniors in Freddy Quintero and Christian Waldron leading the way.
 
The All-Time Series
The Vaqueros are 17-18 all-time against the Aggies in a series that dates back to 1960. The Vaqueros and Aggies last faced each other January 14, 2014 when Texas A&M picked up the 7-0 win. Both teams were scheduled to face each other last season but it was cancelled due to weather.
 
The last win for the Vaqueros over the Aggies came back in 1983.
 
 
The Vaqueros are 13-0 against Prairie View A&M in a series that dates back to 1986.  The Vaqueros defeated the Panthers 6-1 last season on January 24, 2015 in Prairie View.
 
Globetrotters
The Vaqueros currently have eight student-athletes on the roster representing six different countries, including the Trinidad and Tobago, Mexico, Australia, Spain, Israel and Argentina.
 
Next Up
The Vaqueros return home to the Orville Cox Tennis Center to host the Lamar University Cardinals on Sunday at 12 p.m. Admission is free and fans are encouraged to attend. Gates open at 11 a.m.
