COLLEGE STATION – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros men's tennis team fell 2-5 against the No. 3 Texas A&M Aggies on Friday at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center, in the first of two matches on the day.
 
The Aggies (6-0) clinched the doubles point as they won on courts two and three, with the match on court one going unfinished.
 
In singles, Texas A&M picked up another point with a win on court two but sophomore Elliot Johnstone got the Vaqueros (2-3) on the board with a win on court six after he defeated Kevin Lam 6-3, 6-3.
 
The Aggies clinched the match with wins on courts four and five but the Vaqueros continued to play hard on the final two courts. Freshman Yehonatan Kaufman opened his match against Oscar Janglin with a 6-3 win in the first set. He dropped the second set 6-7 and then lost the super tiebreaker 4-10 to give the Aggies their fifth point of the match.
 
Junior Juan Cruz Soria also continued to play hard as he opened with a 7-6 win in the first set against Aleksandre Bakshi, who answered with a 6-3 win in the second set that forced the super tiebreaker. Soria closed out the match with a 10-7 win for his third singles win of the season.
 
The Vaqueros will compete in their second match of the day when they take on the Prairie View A&M Panthers at 6 p.m.
