COLLEGE STATION – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros men's tennis team closed out the day with a 6-0 sweep of the Prairie View A&M Panthers on Friday at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.
 
The Vaqueros (3-3) got things started in doubles as they swept through the matches. With the Panthers (0-6) short a player, UTRGV picked up a win on court three by default but it wasn't needed as they also won on courts one and two.
 
Junior Juan Cruz Soria and freshman Yehonatan Kaufman picked up their first victory as a team as they defeated Christian Waldron and Sergio Avella 7-5 on court one. The duo of sophomores Koby Jansen and Elliot Johnstone beat Anirudh Yadav and Ulrick Boyogueno 6-4 on court two to complete doubles.
 
The Vaqueros took care of business in singles by not dropping a set. On court one, Soria defeated Waldron 6-2, 7-5 while Kaufman defeated Avella 6-0, 6-3 on court two.
 
Freshman Cosme Jubera picked up a win on court three after defeating Yadav 6-1, 6-4. On court four, sophomore Ethan Ammon defeated Freddy Quintero 6-1, 6-1 and Johnstone came away with his second singles victory of the day with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Boyogueno.
 
The Vaqueros will return home on Sunday to host the Lamar University Cardinals at 12 p.m. at the Orville Cox Tennis Center. Attendance is free and fans are encouraged to attend. Gates open at 11 a.m.
