EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros men's tennis team, who were playing in their third match in as many days, fell 1-6 to the Lamar University Cardinals on Sunday at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
 
The Vaqueros (3-4) grabbed the early lead in doubles as the team of junior Juan Cruz Soria and freshman Yehonatan Kaufman defeated Jeandre Hoogenboezem and Nikita Lis 6-3 on court one but the Cardinals (3-2) answered with wins on courts two and three to clinch the point.
 
The Cardinals won five straight matches to start singles to clinch the match overall but it was Soria that who got the Vaqueros on the board with a win on court one. Soria defeated Michael Feucht 7-6 in the first set and then they went back and forth before Soria won 6-4 to take the match.
 
The Vaqueros will be back in action February 20 when they head to San Antonio to face the University of the Incarnate Word Cardinals and the Our Lady of the Lake University Saints in a doubleheader.
