Men's Tennis Set to Face Nicholls State Monday

THIBODAUX, Louisiana – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros men's tennis team is set to face the Nicholls State Colonels on Monday at 2 p.m. the Colonel Tennis Center.
 
It will be the second of four matches in six days for the Vaqueros as they faced No. 33 Rice this past Saturday and then face New Orleans and Lipscomb this week.
 
Last Time Out
The Vaqueros (7-8) fell 0-4 to the No. 33 Rice Owls on Saturday. The Owls won the first two doubles matches to clinch the point and then won on courts six, two and three to clinch the match.
 
Juan Cruz Soria led in his match before it went unfinished and Koby Jansen had split sets on court four when his match went unfinished.
 
Scouting the Colonels
The Colonels are 1-8 on the season with their only win coming against Jackson State on January 23.
 
They are riding an eight-match losing streak after falling 1-6 to Texas A&M on March 6.
 
Sam Meesen and Max Sinn lead the Colonels with three singles victories. Meesen recorded a victory against Texas A&M his last time out.
 
Kieran Cronin and Oleksander Podgursky lead the team in doubles with a 3-2 record.
 
The All-Time Series
The Vaqueros are 6-6 against the Colonels all-time in a series that dates back to 2005.
 
Both of these teams met last season and it was the Colonels who came away with the 4-3 victory on February 15, 2015 in Thibodaux.
 
The last time the Vaqueros defeated the Colonels was on March 12, 2012 as they picked up the 4-3 victory on the road.
 
Globetrotters
The Vaqueros currently have eight student-athletes on the roster representing six different countries, including the Trinidad and Tobago, Mexico, Australia, Spain, Israel and Argentina.
 
Next Up
The Vaqueros will be back on action on Tuesday when they face University of New Orleans at 2 p.m.
