LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros men's tennis team opens up Western Athletic Conference play as they face the Grand Canyon University Antelopes on Thursday at the NMSU Tennis Center at 9:30 a.m.
 
It will be the second of three matches this weekend for the Vaqueros.
 
Last Time Out
The Vaqueros (8-11) are coming off of a 1-6 loss to the Grand Canyon University Antelopes in their first conference match of the season.
 
Andres Hernandez and Elliot Johnstone recorded a doubles win after they defeated Mitch Maroscher and Meidy Chazeau 6-3 on court two but GCU went on to win the point with wins on court one and three.
 
Juan Cruz Soria picked up the lone point for the Vaqueros as he defeated Maroscher in singles. He dropped the first set 4-6 and then bounced back to win the second 6-3 to force a tiebreaker where he won 10-4.

Scouting the Aggies
The Aggies are 6-8 after defeating the Seattle U Redhawks 7-0 on Thursday.

Enrique Asmar, Mauri Menitez and Stijn de Haan led the Aggies with seven singles wins heading into conference play.
 
Christofer Goncalves and Strahinja Trecakov lead the Aggies with a 5-5 doubles record in the No. 1 spot while Liam Goldberg and de Haan have recorded a 4-0 record while playing at the No. 2 spot.
 
The Aggies have recorded wins over Hawaii, San Francisco, UT Permian Basin, Western New Mexico and Weber State.
 
The All-Time Series
The Vaqueros are 3-5 all-time against the Aggies in a series that dates back to 1975.
 
These two teams met last season and it was the Aggies who came away with the victories in both matches with a score of 4-3 including the finals of the WAC Championship.
 
Globetrotters
The Vaqueros currently have eight student-athletes on the roster representing six different countries, including the Trinidad and Tobago, Mexico, Australia, Spain, Israel and Argentina.
 
Next Up
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Saturday when they face the Seattle U Redhawks at 10 a.m.
