LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros men's tennis team fell 0-7 to the New Mexico State Aggies on Friday at the NMSU Tennis Center in their second conference match of the season.
 
The Vaqueros (8-12, 0-2 WAC) dropped the doubles point as the Aggies (7-8, 2-0 WAC) swept through the matches. After falling on court two, the Vaqueros kept it close on court three as the team of freshman Yehonatan Kaufman and sophomore Ethan Ammon fell 4-6 to Mauri Benitez and Enrique Asmar.
 
Junior Juan Cruz Soria and sophomore Koby Jansen took the team of Stahinja Trecakov and Christofer Goncalves to a tiebreaker on court one but lost 6-7.
 
The Aggies swept through singles to put the match away but the Vaqueros took three of the six matches to three sets. Kaufman opened his match with Stijn de Haan on court four with a 6-4 win in the first set before falling 1-6 and 3-6 in the second and third.
 
Sophomore Elliot Johnstone dropped his first set to Mauri Benitez 4-6 on court five but answered back with a 6-3 win in the second before falling 4-6 in the third. Freshman Cosme Jubera dropped his first set 3-6 to Asmar on court six but came back with a 6-4 win in the second before falling 6-2 in the third.
 
The Vaqueros will next face the Seattle University Redhawks on Saturday at 10 a.m.
